Print Preparation

For those images that are derived from my medium format black and white negatives, file sizes are created to 300 dpi resolution for the print size requested using a high resolution scanning system. The file is then adjusted in Photoshop to meet the intentions of Michael Easton for the image. A proof is made and further adjustments done as required. The fine print is made using an Epson 11880 printer with the archival K3 pigment inkset. The paper used is the fine art baryta glossy paper to maximize print resolution and tonal response.

The photographic paper is an acid free product made from 100% alpha cellulose fiber (derived from wood pulp) and manufactured by Hahnemuhle, a German company that has been making specialty papers for over 500 years. Supplier audits ensure that only cultivated resources are used. 80% of their pulp suppliers are certified either through international certificates such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), and SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative standard) or a variety of regional certificates such as PEFC (German), DNV(Sweden) and BVQI (Brazil/US, forest management standard). Hahnemühle is currently subject to the Flora - Fauna - Habitat (FFH) Directive of the European Union (Directive 92/43 EEC). Compliance with the FFH directive is audited annually by the authorities. This company uses only renewable energy in its production facilities.

The print is cold dry mounted onto archival quality 100% rag museum board. Each mounted print is then matted using the same material. The museum board is made of 100% cotton and buffered with a minimum 3% calcium carbonate as required by the U.S. Library of Congress to protect the board and artwork from hostile environmental factors such as the acidic atmosphere of our contaminated urban environment. The cotton used is the salvaged linters, a waste byproduct, from the textile industry. Both the window matte and the underlying mounting board are signed by Michael Easton who also notes a title for the image and the print edition number.

Print Framing

The print is framed in a simple, but elegant, black wood frame of the Kyoto series. The wood for the Kyoto frames comes from Malaysia from fast growing early successional shrubs that grow in disturbed soil. Other frame options are available, please contact me for additional options, if desired.

The print is backed by a chemically inert material that is impervious to moisture. Plastic coated picture hanging wire is attached. The size of frames (in inches) used for each print format and print size (in inches) are as follows:

PRINT SIZE 16x21.5 11x14.75
PICTURE SIZE (including frame)
- Horizontal 29.5 x 33 23 x 24
- Vertical 35 x 27.5 26 x 20.5
